Our lodge, Estancia Laguna Verde, is another reason The Patagonia Fishing Company sets the bar for destinations in Argentina. With the only lodge on Jurassic lake, a dozen more lakes and the Barrancoso river, this could very well be the ultimate rainbow fishing destination in the world. With our management and oversight, we believe this destination can, and will, forever hold its own as a top-tier international fly fishing destination. This could easily be the site of the next world-record Rainbow Trout.
Jurassic Lake (Strobel Lake) is a place where you can experience the sort of fishing that until now, was either a dream or a memory of our ancestors. It is in an area almost totally devoid of human contact. Although the name Estancia Laguna Verde may conger up visions of wildflowers, picturesque mountains, and an oasis of Argentine ranching, nothing could be further from the truth. This inhospitable landscape, and remote location, is only to be tolerated for the prized trout in its waters. Jurassic lake has quickly risen to the top of the list of international destinations, to become what most anglers consider to be probably the world’s most prolific wild rainbow trout fishery.
Although the surroundings are quite rugged, Estancia Laguna Verde has gone through the incredible task of building 2 structures on the ranch, which will provide comfort to all anglers who venture to this remote destination. We are proud to be the only lodge in this region. A main lodge with 5 guest rooms, and an anglers lakeside cottage, will provide all anglers great comfort in the middle of this rugged ecosystem.
In addition to being the only lodge, Estancia Laguna Verde also has over a dozen other small chained lakes, 5 miles of the main tributary of Jurassic Lake, forming a series of world-class fisheries. It really is Jurassic Park!
Everything about this place and experience is well described in the name alone .....Jurassic! Whether it is the incredibly rugged countryside, the volcanic caves, or their ancient drawings, everyone can agree that the fish draw the more direct comparison on account of their gargantuan proportions. Averaging around 10 lbs (It is impossible to find an average!) these totally wild and unbelievably powerful fish are enough to make regular trout fishing tackle become excess luggage. Rods with significant backbone and reels that contain a genuine hundred yards of backing are the minimum required to play this game. These are not your average size rainbow, or the average daily number caught, and most certainly not your average fight.
