Day 1 - Leave the U.S. on an evening flight for Buenos Aires on American Airlines flight.

Day 2 - Arrive in Buenos Aires in the morning. You will be met by an English-speaking guide in the morning and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel. Relax and enjoy the rest of the day, perhaps taking a half-day guided city tour. Dinner in Buenos Aires.

Day 3 - Fly to San Martin de los Andes, transfer to Aluminé. In the morning, you and your party will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to Jorge Newberry Airport, also known as Aeroparque (AEP) the domestic airport. You will take a 2-hour flight to San Martin de los Andes.

Upon arrival, a representative from the Northern Patagonia Fishing Club will take you in a private vehicle to the town of Aluminé, 2 hours to the north. Aluminé is a quaint little town of 3,000 inhabitants. The region has a quiet charm reminiscent of New Mexico or Southern Colorado, and has several important streams that receive very little fishing pressure. Especially notable is the quality dry fly fishing available in this part of Patagonia.

The Northern Patagonia Fishing Club (www.northernpatagonia.com) was created to offer a unique and authentic Argentine experience like no other. We employ expert local guides and serve quality regional meals.

Upon arrival to Aluminé, you will be taken to Estancia Llamuco, a quiet little ranch right on the edge of town. You will check into the small country house on the ranch property, which will serve as your ‘lodge’ for the next few days. Prepare your fishing gear for an evening of float fishing on the upper reaches of the Aluminé River. Dinner and sleep back at the ranch.

Cocktails, dinner and sleep back at Llamuco.

Day 4 - Fish Spring Creek X (Trust us, its good!). After breakfast, you will drive 40 minutes to fish Spring Creek X. This is a spectacular drive.

This spring creek is in Lanin National Park, bordering the Mapuche Indian reservation of Ruca Choroi. Fishing is typically done by hiking along the banks and sight-fishing to 16-22 inch rainbows in spectacular valley with Araucaria forests all around you. There are some really nice brook trout in this stream as well.

At mid-day, you will have lunch streamside. Dinner and sleep back at Llamuco.

Day 5 - Fish the Rio Pulmari. The Rio Pulmari is a fantastic medium-sized stream that is loaded with strong healthy trout. It runs over big granite boulders with sand, elodea and freshwater mussels. Of note are the intense insect hatches of caddis and mayflies that occur on this river. You will have lunch by the river, returning to Llamuco for dinner and sleep at the lodge

Day 6 - Fish a SECRET CREEK. After breakfast, you will drive 45 minutes into a private ranch where at the top of the mesa there will be horses and gauchos waiting for you. You will then ride the horses 30 minutes down a 1000-foot canyon to a special creek. This snow-fed creek with big boulders has few, but very large fish.

You will hike the creek and sight-fish to rainbows in the 16-20 inch range, but each important pool can have browns in the 4-6 pound range. This is like New Zealand style fishing, as most times you have only 1 cast at these large browns. Either you will hook them, or they will spook.

You will have lunch and siesta by the side of the river, and return to Llamuco for dinner and sleep.

Day 7 - Fish the Arroyo Aoniken. After breakfast, you will drive 45 minutes towards Lago Aluminé to fish a very little-known spring creek. The water here is cold and gin clear, but harbors some big rainbows and browns in the 2-4 pound range, with the occasional monster, depending on which section of the creek you will fish.

Fishing can be quite technical as these trout are very wary. This creek requires a bit of bush-whacking in places, or casting from odd positions correctly approach these fish.

Day 8 - Fish the Rio Aluminé. After breakfast, you will drive a few minutes down the road to float an upper or middle stretch of the Rio Aluminé.

The Rio Aluminé is moderate-sized river with gentle gradient for easy floating. It’s the longest floatable and fishable river in Patagonia, with over 90 miles of productive water. It’s long pools are lined with willows, and provide excellent dry fly fishing for 16-22 inch rainbows and browns. Larger browns are available by fishing with streamers.

A hot lunch will be served streamside, followed by the requisite siesta. After finishing the float, you will return to Llamuco for cocktails, dinner and sleep.

Day 9 - Fish the Rio Quillen. After breakfast, you will drive to wade fish the private sections on the Rio Quillen, a small stream loaded with big trout. It is famous, and is considered one of the top 2 dry fly rivers in all of Patagonia, if not THE BEST. You will take lunch streamside. Dinner and sleep at the lodge.

Day 10 - Leave Aluminé, Fly out of San Martin de los Andes, Fly out of EZE. After breakfast, you will transfer to San Martin de los Andes to take your flight back to Buenos Aires.

You will be met at the international airport and assisted with transfer to your check in to your international flight back to the U.S. that leaves in the late evening (to be determined).

10 Fishing Days Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive  to Bariloche, transfer to Estancia Arroyo Verde (Travel Time 1 1/2 hours). Begin your trip fishing the Rio Traful, and enjoying Estancia Arroyo Verde. Spend 2 days, 3 ngihts fishing on the Estancia.

Day 2 - Fish the Rio Traful, returning to the lodge for lunch. After lunch you will return to the river for a full evening of fishing.  The Rio Traful has been regarded as one of the finest rivers in Argentina. With only one Estancia on the river offering fishing, you are assured to experience one of the highest regarded rivers, and estancias, of Argentina.

Day 3 - Fish a second day on the Estancia. Since the river is all walk/wading, you will have a chance to fish the pools and runs you missed on the first day.

Day 4 - After being pampered for a couple days, you will be ready for 2 days floating on the Limay Medio. Travel time from the Estancia is about 2 hours. We will set a camp for you on the river (in a private location), and be sure to make this time period the middle of the week.  This is undoubtedly the best big, brown trout, river in Argentina, and maybe the world (excluding Sea-Runs, of course).

Day 5 - Float the Limay Medio all day, and then transfer to Estancia Collon Cura (Travel Time 1 1/2 hours). You will stay at the Estancia for 3 nights, and 2 days of fishing. You will float different private stretches of the Rio Collon Cura.  This will give you a chance to be pampered again for a few nights. It is a basic, but well-appointed estancia, and the fishing is fantastic, generally speaking.

Day 6 - Float the Rio Collon Cura all day, taking lunch riverside. You will return in the evening to the Estancia. Your entire float will be inside the Estancia, utilizing all of their private accesses.

Day 7 - Float the Rio Collon Cura all day, but a different stretch. Again, you will return to the Estancia in the evening, for your final night at the ranch.

Day 8 - You will drive approximately 1 1/2 hours to the well known Estancia San Huberto, located on the Rio Malleo. This is definitely match-the-hatch fishing, and hunting for rising heads. The Malleo is considered Argentinas premier dry fly river. You will arrive to the Estancia, put your things away, and have lunch at the lodge. After lunch you will begin fishing the 20 miles of private water on the Estancia. You will return in the evening to the Estancia.

Day 9 - You will spend another day fishing the Malleo, and again return to the Estancia for the evening.

Day 10 - After leaving Estancia San Huberto, you will begin your 3 day float on the Rio Chimehuin. This river is one of the other all-time classics of Argentina. Only recently we started choosing to float this river for multi-day floats to maximize the fishing to be had. Traditionally one lodge has dictated the fishing by assigning pools to its clients. You don’t get to really fish the river well this way, so we have opted for fishing the whole river.

Day 11 - This will be your final day on the Chimehuin, and your final day fishing with us. After you reach the take-out, you will then drive 2 hours back to Bariloche, where you will have a room waiting for you in town. You will go out on the town this evening for dinner and drinks, if you have the energy!

Day 12 - Catch your flight to B.A.
